About Debbie

Welcome! I’m Debbie Dey (pronounced Day – and sadly no, I’m not related to the actress or the singer).

I’m an accomplished writer, an administrator for a major construction company in Western New York and have over 31 years of experience in residential home building. I’ve cross-trained between departments with a strong understanding of sales, digital marketing, production, advertising, editorial content, customer coordination, and management. I take great pride in the leadership position I held while laying out, setting up and managing the 3,000 square foot design center that customers use daily to make their new home selections.

As a woman over 50, I have experience with all the issues women in this special age group face. Whether it’s adjusting to the empty-nester lifestyle, growing older gracefully (or with attitude), balancing work and home, starting a new business venture, or following your dreams, I’m here to inspire and encourage. 

I have first-hand entrepreneurial knowledge having grown up working the family summer resort business in Canada (and a successful joint venture “Worm Business” with my sister, when we were children). I spent nearly 20 years living in both the U.S. and Canada while learning all aspects of the tourism industry.

As the eldest of two girls, I spent a significant amount of time with my father learning how to maintain the cottages and surrounding, lakefront property. It’s no wonder I was drawn to the construction industry as an adult as I’d performed most every job required – shingling roofs, hanging drywall, building docks, mixing and pouring concrete, repairing plumbing, installing light fixtures and painting everything in sight. In my downtime, I even managed a little fun in what I fondly called, “Debbie’s Ski School.” I was pretty accomplished back in the day and taught more kids than I can recall how to water ski. I still remember the excitement in their eyes (and mine) when they floated across the water on two narrow pieces of wood for the very first time.

I’ve been married to the love of my life for the past 36 years, and we have one amazing daughter, who is grown now and just recently moved to her own place. Learning to balance work and home life has been challenging over all these years but so very rewarding.

It is my hope share many of my “human” experiences and insights as well as many “alien” experiences that were once new and unfamiliar, and yet somehow stepping stones to a deeper understanding of life.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey. I’m happy to have you.
